White Bear Lake

After work today I met up with Lisa, a climber I met at VE, to introduce her to kiting. We met up at the same exact spot Bryan Z. took me for my first kite lesson. She did fantastic on my trainer kite. We met alot of the local riders today that were out making those jumps look soooooo easy. When I got there the wind was whipping pretty good so I didn't throw up my TD and when it died down to just perfect for my kite it was time to head back to Red Wing. The ice seemed good enough but there was some slushy water in spots.

Nora, what kind of a kite and harness do you have? I've been "shopping" since I got home. I tried to drag the snowboarding kid back out there. Maybe next time.

Hey Lisa...I figured you love this kiting! The best way to find a harness is to try both styles on. One is a waist harness and one is the type that goes around your butt and supports you alot like a climbing harness. That's the kind I have. Midwest has a rope you can hook on and then put your weight in and see which your body likes the best. Tell Peter, Tommy, Jerome and Ellen I said "Hi!" if you go to Midwest. You'll need a spreader bar also. There are all different types of kites and since I bought mine there have been changes. First you need to buy a newer kite just for the safety factors. There are newer bars out now that have the depower line thru the bar and it keeps the leash from tangling. This year I would like to try some different styles of kites. The sponsered riders will let you demo their brands anytime. Anyway I'm thinking when I walk out of work tomorrow if the wind is steady I'll pop up to Belaire for a riding session. You're free to use my trainer anytime!

Oh and my kite is a Slingshot Turbo Deisel 10 meter. They replaced this one with a T2 this year and from what I hear it's better than my TD. I've also heard alot of good about the Slingshot Rev for 08. Now other brands I dont't know alot about but all have good kites. There's different styles also. Mine is a bow. I bought my son a C-kite for Christmas. Then there's Hybrids that are a cross between bows and C-kites. Those are all inflatables. Then there's foils. A whole lot to learn isn't there! I'll make a copy of that cd Bryan Z. gave me that I told you about. You can show your kids that video and get them hooked!
