I'm thinking of running away this winter

Patagonia comes to mind. Since I really am not (for real) going to buy another boat I think I can afford a trip like this. I'm checking out this place. http://www.exchile.com/index.html A friend went last winter and said it was incredible. This would be a learning trip for me. They have everything from beginner to expert and also other sports. If this sounds interesting let me know. Other suggestions for destinations welcome too. I just want a week of instruction someplace with a variety of rivers to learn on. Local USA works for me also.

I am originally from Argentina, and I've been to Patagonia on both sides. If you have a chance don't miss Bariloche, on the Argentina side. They call it "little Switzerland". It's absolutely gorgeous. If you go now Sept-Oct-Nov is spring down there and full of flowers. Mountains, lakes, rivers... paradise.
I just discovered your blog. I started kayaking last year and I'm fairly new to MN, too.

Hi Maria!
What kind of kayaking do you do? Whitewater? I am really thinking of heading down there this winter and would consider it a trip in a lifetime! Check out RapidsRiders.net for more info on local MN whitewater kayaking. Hope you enjoy it up here!

Hi Nora,
No whitewater yet... although I would absolutely love it. I took many rafting trips before, up to class IV. But always with a guide, and always envious of the ones who went on the kayaks by themselves.
I started last year, mostly lakes but took a trip on the Rum River, too. All in sea kayaks, 14 to 17 feet long. Don't have my own yet, but working on it.

Maria,
RapidsRiders is dedicated to teaching safe whitewater kayaking. Starting with pool sessions this winter and then Canoe U in the spring. The Vermillion river clean up in Hastings, is the 23rd...stop down and meet some of us. If there's some water we'll be paddling it for sure. If you're interested in kayaking...Midwest lets you demo kayaks plus I do have an extra or three...depending on your size. UMD teaches kayaking during the summer...great teachers up there also!
