The Vermillion Desert

Well I have come to face the fact that I live in the Vermillion Desert Region of Minnesota. A beautiful night of thunderstorms is now a thing of the past. Flash flood warnings gone in a blink. The Bible has a story where God wanted His people to move away from this river that...was in the middle of the desert...but they were too comfortable and liked it by that river. So God dried it up and forced them to move on...to where He wanted and it turned out to be a much better place. This story has gone thru my mind everytime I think of the Verm and yes it's been great "moving on" to other rivers and I have loved every minute of it. Now I have 5 days coming up in August..the 4th thru the 8th and I have no intention of staying home. I am playing with the idea of a long road trip with the destinations on my list so far being the Ottawa. If I went there I'd definately sign up for lessons. Colorado again. Sturgeon Falls if there is water. Closer to home there's the rivers up by Thunder Bay. I wish I could have made it up there this week but work comes first. There is also the Two Harbors Kayak Festival and I could dust off my sea kayak and head there. Anyway I'm putting it out there to see if there is any intrest in car pooling for a long drive or if someone has other suggestions for destinations. The only rule of traveling with me is destination yes...itinerary no. BTW I'll be home visiting the relatives on the weekend of the 28th of July if anyone wants to paddle the Wolf, Red or Menomonie.

Nora-
I'll have a friend in town at the beginning of august, but I might be able to join you on the Wolf later in the month...

That'd be great if you could make the Wolf on the 28th! I've never been on the Wolf yet...I'm looking forward to it! Rosie will be paddling with me that day also!

Ron...you know I'm cursed when I go there. Everytime I run that 18 mile race the weather kicks up and Superior is REALLY ROUGH. Wait a minute...rough, surf, hmmmmmmm I love that stuff now! It's a very good posibility.

It was really windy that day and the waves were something! The first time I ran that race the waves were HUGE!!! I made the reservation today...#2. Only one site left for that weekend. I'll be staying up there and bumming the north shore again the rest of the week. Doing the lower Louis or what ever is available to run.
