Verm today at 57 cfs

The Verm was low today but easy paddling and playing. Tried out my new Double Diamond paddle today. I just love it! I do wonder where all the water is going from the snow melt...haven't seen it down at the Verm yet.

Tuesday Verm

I stopped on the way to work this afternoon to check the level. It's just as high as it was on Sunday, despite the huge dip in the gauge. The two rocks behind the large rock are under...good indication of a fun level. Not too much ice formed. Looks like this level will hold for the weekend. There will still be snow but like it is now it's not too much of a problem.

Little better than a foot of snow today!

Five days later, the snow is hanging in there!

Safety Rodeo at the Pool

Midwest Mountaineering sponsered Demo night and The Safety Rodeo at the pool. Lots of boats to try and the Rodeo was lots of fun! Thanks Midwest!

North Shore Trip

Brian and I went up to the North Shore this weekend. The weather was extremely cold but we stayed at the Great Lakes School of Log Cabin Building / Snowshoe Lodges and were plenty warm. They're rustic log cabins with haul yer own water, outhouses, and wood stoves. They did have electricity though. Nicely located with their own snowshoe/XC ski trails.
The sleeping rivers pictured are the Kettle and the St Louis. Lake Superior shots are at Sugarloaf Point. Some nice surf. Good time!

Click to enlarge the St. Louis photo and check out the tracks on the bank. There is a slide mark into the river on the last drop. You can see a couple of other entry points. Otter?

Vermillion

I stopped on the way to work tonight. The river was just covering the two gauge rocks. The south fork must have gotten more rain than the north. It's a start to a nice level! I will be paddling Thursday and Friday this week...someplace...North Shore surf is rocking...very enticing!
